Foy Vance Takes the Crowd Outside

Foy Vance is an Irish singer-songwriter – all dark humor, pretty guitar parts, and incredible singing. He loves to interact with the crowd, and when he really hits his stride it’s downright spiritual.

Unfortunately, on a lot of Foy’s records, all those qualities that make him so special are over-produced right out of existence. The strings and nice soft edges just don’t work for such a raw talent.

So, my advice is to watch him live. Watch videos of him playing live. Watch this video of him playing Guiding Light at the Rockwood Music Hall in New York, and stick it out to the end – it’s worth it. And if he comes around, go to the show, and see this kind of magic in person.

Prince Unleashes a Monster Solo

Here’s a song almost everyone knows, The Beatles’ While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

In this version from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, Dhani Harrison, and others pay tribute to George Harrison with one of his greatest songs. They’re all good, but they’re not the reason we’ve posted the video here.

That reason would be the face-melting solo that kicks off about the 3:27 mark, delivered by The Purple One himself. I’m not sure how many people thought Prince had such impressive chops. Well he does. Also, he can make a guitar disappear when he’s done with it.
